Filling degree of urban sewage pipes and related monitoring situation

Detailed Description

The current method of measuring fullness is to install water level telemetry equipment in the manhole. These devices typically have built-in power supplies that supply their own power, and then transmit wireless signals to the server. Sensors typically use one or two composite sensors, such as ultrasonic, radar, and static pressure sensors. The measured data is transmitted to the server via the public network. The fullness of the entire sewage network can be obtained through the server.

Filling degree refers to the ratio of the water depth of sewage in a pipeline to the diameter of the pipeline. According to the "Water Supply and Drainage Design Manual (Volume 5) Urban Drainage", sewage networks will have a filling degree. The filling degree required by design specifications for different sewage pipe diameters is usually between 0.55 and 0.75. When the filling degree of the pipe section is greater than the design filling degree, it is in a high water level operating state.

Measuring fullness is of great significance and value. Firstly, it can accurately reflect the operation status of the sewage pipeline and help determine whether the pipeline is within the normal load range. If the filling degree is too high, it may indicate that the pipeline is blocked, the drainage is not smooth, or the sewage volume exceeds the design capacity. Timely detection can avoid environmental accidents such as sewage overflow and ensure urban environmental sanitation and residents' quality of life. Secondly, through long-term monitoring and analysis of the filling degree, data support can be provided for the planning, design, and renovation of sewage pipelines, optimizing pipeline layout and diameter selection, and improving the efficiency and reliability of drainage systems. Furthermore, understanding the degree of fullness is helpful in arranging the operation and scheduling of sewage treatment plants in a reasonable manner, ensuring that sewage treatment facilities can effectively treat sewage and avoid affecting the treatment effect due to excessive or insufficient inflow.

When the sewage pipe is running at a high position, the filling degree is relatively high. Generally speaking, under normal circumstances, the filling degree of sewage pipes will be controlled within a reasonable range to reserve space to cope with sudden increases in flow and other situations.

In terms of integration with water level monitoring, real-time understanding of the water level height inside the sewage pipe can be achieved through water level monitoring. By comparing the water level height with the diameter of the pipeline, the degree of fullness can be determined. If it is monitored that the fullness is close to the design upper limit, it means that the sewage pipe may be in a high level operation state, which may be because the sewage discharge is too large in a short time, such as when encountering a rainstorm, the rainwater will be mixed into the sewage pipe, or the sewage pump station failure will lead to poor drainage. At this time, measures can be taken in a timely manner, such as controlling the amount of sewage discharged and emergency maintenance of equipment, to prevent adverse consequences such as sewage overflow.
